Vision

African and Caribbean people live, develop, learn, work, relax and heal in a way that enables them to make choices and participate fully in community life. African and Caribbean people have access as close to home as possible, to comprehensive, connected range of supports and services focused on the promotion, maintenance and recovery of mental well-being.

Policy & Philosphy

SIRI provides a range of services for service users who are suffering from psychosocial and emotional difficulties (mental health problems) and are currently slipping through the statutory sector  provision net. The service provides a range of integrated and focused community-based services addressing the needs of the service users, their families  and carers.

SIRI improves the well being of its users by helping them in other related service areas; such as housing, welfare benefits, employment advice, training and health promotion.

SIRI’s philosophy is to provide effective mental health services working within Black analysis of the world.

SIRI actively strives towards therapeutic interventions, which are free from racism.

SIRI believes that individualized and institutionalized racism are endemic in Britain and have serious consequences for Black people in the following areas in life:

Physical health and access to health care

Emotional, Spiritual and Psychological well-being.

Our Afrocentric Model

The stresses of modern society especially for immigrants clearly stretch many people beyond their ability to cope.

This situation has resulted in a rise in the number and severity of mental health problems manifested by people in Britain.

The SIRI Afro centric view involves four distinct components:

Direct Community Services provide educational experiences to the community as a whole. This is accomplished through preventive education.

Direct Client Services
address the immediate needs of clients as well as people identified as at risk for developing future mental health problems through outreach and counselling to vulnerable people.

Indirect Community Services
comprise efforts deliberately designed to make the social environment more responsive to the needs of people as a whole. This is done through collaboratively working with key people in targeted areas to cultivate positive systematic changes by influencing public policy.

Indirect Client Services
represent those environmental interventions aimed at meeting the special needs of people in vulnerable areas. Work is carried out to create new helping networks by providing consultation and client-advocacy services to people and agencies within the areas where clients live.
